2014年沙特将在电力和水利上投资357亿美元

沙特水电部部长Abdul Rahman Al Hussein说：“为了满足国内不断增长需求， 2014年沙特阿拉伯计划将在电力和水利方面投资357亿美元（1340亿里亚尔）。大约267亿美元将用于电力项目，90亿美元将用于水利基建。”

SaudiArabia plans to invest around $35.7bn (SAR 134bn) in power and water projectsin 2014 as it aims to meet a rapid rise in domestic demand, according toMinister of Water and Electricity Abdul Rahman Al Hussein.Around $26.7bn is set tobe allocated for electricity projects, with the remaining $9bn (SAR 34bn)assigned to water infrastructure, he added.“SEC [Saudi Electricity Company] hasan autonomous budget and we have already allocated SAR 100bn [$26.7bn] for theprojects which we will carry out in 2014… they include new power plants,completion of projects under construction and maintenance of existing units,”the minister told the London-based Arabic language dailyAsharqalawsat.AlHussein said the power and water projects are needed to face rapid growth indemand averaging 9% per year, adding that allocations for the water sectorcover the execution of new projects, operation and maintenance of desalinationplants and sewage networks.

Asharqalawsatcited SEC figures showing Saudi Arabia needs to invest nearly$133.3bn in the power sector in the next 10 years and that around $40bn wouldcome from the private sector.

Al Hussein also revealed that Saudi Arabia ispushing ahead with plans to “fragment” SEC into four firms to cope with the newprojects and the surge in power demand.

“Next year, we will also see thebirth of four power companies within plans to fragment SEC to generate threeother companies for electricity generation, transmission and distribution…thetransmission firm has already been born and become autonomous,” he said.
