阿布扎比交通运输部近日表示围绕中东首条“绿色道路”的工程设计工作即将展开。

这条长5公里的试点道路将连通阿布扎比现有主干道（E11）和新建主干道（E311）。工程预计在2015年第一季度开始施工。

阿布扎比交通运输部表示该道路将是阿布扎比未来道路建设的典范，该道路将使用最先进的技术和解决方案以最大化降低碳排放，所使用材料也为环保建筑材料。

另外，该道路的照明将使用可再生能源。

该道路为阿布扎比交通运输部陆路交通总体规划中的战略性工程之一。项目与阿布扎比和马斯达尔环保局——城市规划委员会Estidama项目团队合作

该试点项目完工后，相关部门将对其进行评估、分析，创建一个评估体系，为将来全面推广“绿色道路”做准备。

Abu Dhabi unveils plan for MidEast's first 'green road'

Abu Dhabi's Department of Transport (DoT) has announced plans to start the engineering design work on the first "green road" in the Middle East.

The 5km pilot project will link the existing Abu Dhabi-Dubai Main Road (E11) and the new Abu Dhabi-Dubai Main Road (E311).

Construction work is expected to begin in Q1 2015, a statement cited by news agency WAM said.

The DoT said the project "will be a model for future roads" in Abu Dhabi as it will include state-of-the-art technologies and solutions to lower carbon emissions, as well as environmentally-friendly construction material.

The project will also use renewable energy for lighting, the statement added.

The "green road" project is one of the strategic initiatives undertaken by the DoT as part of the Surface Transport Master Plan vision.

It is collaborating with international institutes and consultants as well as strategic stakeholders, namely the Urban Planning Council Estidama Programme Team, the Environment Agency in Abu Dhabi and Masdar.

Upon completion of the pilot project, the outcome will be evaluated, analysed and used to create a rating system for future implementation of green roads throughout the emirate.
