Champs Elyseesinspired project planned for Riyadh

ArcanContracting is developing a residential complex in Riyadhwhere the centrepiece will look like the Champs Elysees in Paris.

TerrySmith, senior vice president, control and planning, told the CW Leaders inConstruction Summit KSA: "You’ll have traffic down the middle and at thesides you’ll have computerised transportation for residents and guests to getto their points of interest.”

He saidthe 1.2m sq mproject had gained planning approval and the firm was now reviewing the designsbut some of the structural foundations are already being fixed.

The firmalso has two projects in Jeddah. A 300,000 sq m mixed-use facility and aresort, which still needs planning approval.

“We seegreat opportunities. We have investors for these projects we’re pleased to say,”Smith added.

Earlierthis month, the master developer behind Dubai's MotorCityconfirmed it has permanently scrapped plans for a F1-branded theme park andrevealed proposals for a new mixed-use redevelopment at the site in Dubailand,with a replica of the famous Champs Élysées area of Paris.

AhmedKhalaf Obaid Bin Touq Al Marri, Union Properties’ general manager said theChamps Élysées area would be fashioned on the famous Paris boulevard with "the sameactivities as the Champs-Élysées".

However,he said the length of the Dubaiversion was yet to be defined. "Maybe it is 1km," he said.
