沙特将在红海沿岸建设大型港口

沙特官方透露，沙特当局已批准在西部海岸建造大型港口。建成的新港口不仅能吸引更多的投资，而且能缓解沙特吉达港口的货运压力。新港口将建立在红海沿岸的海滨小镇Al Lith。

港口将非常大，港口面积将达到4300万平方米，可以停靠巨大货运船舶和其他类型船只。吉达市政厅部长助理告诉沙特阿拉伯语日报记者，当局已经分配了项目的土地，正在等待招标。

“项目最重要的目的是为了减缓吉达港口的货运压力，同时能带动就业，吸引周围居民，工厂以及其他的方面的投资，给当地的发展做出贡献。” Al Lith镇的市长说道。“项目将会在财政部拨款以后开始启动，随后开始招标资讯公司，包括码头和运河的建设方案，挖掘的区域等。目前还不能确定项目的具体时间。

Al Lith 镇的负责人Mohammed Al Qabbaa说：“距吉达南部约230公里的新港口，未来将和吉达港口一样成为红海沿岸最重要的经济区域。未来这里还将建设大型的工业区域。”

Saudi Arabia to build large port in thecoastal Red Sea town of Al Lith

Saudi Arabia hasapproved plans to build a large port on its western coast to attract investmentand ease pressure on the Western Red Sea port of Jeddah,already one of the world's busiest harbors, an official said.
The port will be located in the coastal Red Seatown of Al Lithand will spread over an area of 43 million square meters, said Mansour AlGamdi, Jeddah's assistant secretary-general for municipalities. It will giveaccess to giant vessels, he added.
Authorities have already allotted land for theproject and are awaiting tenders to be issued, he told the Saudi Arabiclanguage daily Okaz.
The paper quoted another official as saying theplanned port will be very large and will be able to receive giant cargo shipsand other vessels.
"The main benefits of this project is thatit will ease pressure on Jeddah port and at the same time contribute to thedevelopment of that area, create jobs for Saudis, attract residents and lure infactories and other investments," said Omar Al Zahrani, head of themunicipality in Shawwak town south of Al Lith.
He said the project will be launched after itreceives the necessary financial allocations from the Ministry of Finance.
"Following which, tenders will be issuedfor consultancy companies to carry out the design work, the planning of thequays and canals, and the areas of excavation. It is too early to give aproject timeline," he said.
Mohammed Al Qabbaa, governor of Al Lith, saidthe port, nearly 230 km southof Jeddah, will (together with Jeddah) turn the two ports into the mostimportant economic areas on the Red Sea after Jeddah, adding that it willinclude 'large industries zones'.
