Thevolume of the industrial output in the Kingdom amounted to SR279.5 billion($74.5 billion) in 2012 and realized a growth rate of 10.9 percent compared tofigures of last year, local media said quoting an Eastern Province-basedreport.
The number of workers in the industrial sectorreached 768,000 by the end of 1433, of which 18 percent are working innon-metallic mineral industries, 15 percent in food industries, and 12 percentin metal formation. The three areas have a combined 45 percent of the wholeindustrial manpower, the report, prepared by the Eastern Province Chamber ofCommerce and Industry (EPCCI) InformationCenter, said.
On the number of factories,the report said it reached 5,991 plants by the end 1433 of which 18 percent (or1,090) were engaged in non-metallic products, 14 percent (or 818) in metalformation, 12 percent (or 737) in plastic products. The three industriescaptured 44 percent of the total number of factories in the Kingdom, the reportsaid.
